Grunley Bears Friendly, Fierce, 8-4-09

So I’m sitting here trying to come to terms with our defeat last night at the hands of the bears of Grunley. What I think is most difficult to bear is that we played a darn good game but just couldn’t pull it all together and get the hits in the clutch moments. Despite a valiant effort and great play all around, we were only able to get 6 people across the plate (would have been seven if it wasn’t for jennie effing finch on first base) and that turned out to not be enough to overcome the Gruns.

The game had numerous highlights, about as many as injuries. Mr. Goldberg unfortunately acquired a hammy pull on a tremendous diving attempt in left field, and needed a pinch runner for the rest of the game. Katy Nelson was dodging balls left and right as the bears bore down on her through the middle innings, but still took one off the toe that would have felled a lesser woman. My hand has a nice sized welt on it from the 50,000 mph line drive I snagged in left.

Dan “Big” Mach and Emily “Easy” Zia intoned the great Wizard of Oz for some diving stabs on the infield. James “Rocky Mountain Oyster” Owens and skip nearly collided on a shallow fly ball, while Brian Levine and Steve Rietzke rounded out a solid outfield effort. All in all, we played great and (I hope) all had a good time.

So while this game was one for the ages, or at least for an exciting Tuesday night by ole Honest Abe, we must move on to our next game, tomorrow. Yay!

We are playing the CDT/Fleeting Expletives in a rematch of the 2-inning, DizzyBat-shortened game from a few weeks ago. The game will be at 6:30pm tomorrow, but you can, as always, show up as early as you’d like to start warming up. The fleetin’s are supposed to be getting us a field, which will likely end up either right at 15th & Constitution or on that strip of mall between the monument and the Capitol.

Effing A,

Skip
